PushUp - das sind 7 Herren und 2 Damen, die sich mit Haut und Haar dem Rock ‘n‘ Soul verschrieben haben - eine klassische Soul- Formation, die ihre Wurzeln in der Motown- Zeit hat. Vorbilder wie Marvin Gaye, Sam & Dave oder James Brown prägen das Programm dieser Band ebenso wie neuere Einflüsse einer Amy Winehouse oder Duffy. Fette Bläser, ein grooviger Bass und die Stimme von John Johnson (Houston, Texas) machen jede Show zu einem unvergesslichen Gute-Laune-Lifting.

Ihr voller Terminkalender und ihre Auftritte auf dem Dortmunder Kaiserstraßenfest, den Gelsenkirchener Jazztagen und der Lünschen Mess zeigen, dass diese Truppe zum Besten gehört was das Ruhrgebiet derzeit an Soulbands zu bieten hat.

Sänger und Frontmann John Johnson, wuchs als jüngstes von 8 Kindern in Houston, Texas auf. Die Eltern, Nachtclub Besitzer, förderten schon damals schon einige beachtliche Blues- und Soul-Künstler – Musiker wie Archie Bell & The Drells und Johnnie Taylor gaben sich dort die Klinke in die Hand. So war es nicht verwunderlich, dass er bereits im Alter von 16 zusammen mit Vater und Bruder mit „The Mighty Mighty Mustangs“ den „wilden Westen“ unsicher machte. Nach der High-School führte ihn die Armee nach Deutschland, wo er später seine Familie gründete und erste Erfahrungen in Rap- und Hip-Hop Gruppen sammelte, bis er schließlich 2008 zur Band PushUp stieß, in der er seine musikalischen Wurzeln so richtig ausleben darf – immer getreu dem Motto: Sax & Brass & Rock ‘n‘ Soul.

PushUp - these are the seven men and two women, who are committed body and soul to rock ‘n‘ Soul - a classic soul band that has its roots in the Motown era. Models such as Marvin Gaye, Sam & Dave and James Brown characterize the program of this band as well as more recent influences of Amy Winehouse or Duffy. Fat horns, a groovy bass and the voice of John Johnson (Houston, Texas) make every show a memorable good-mood-lifting.

Their busy schedule and appearances on the Dortmund Kaiser street, the Gelsenkirchen jazz days and the Lünsche Mess show that this force for the good of what is currently the Ruhrgebiet area has to offer in soul bands.

Singer and front man John Johnson, grew up the youngest of eight children in Houston, Texas. The parents, nightclub owner, promoted some notable blues and soul artists - musicians such as Archie Bell & The Drells and Johnnie Taylor stated there, the jack in hand. So it was no surprise that he already at the age of 16, together with his father and brother with ‘The Mighty Mighty Mustangs‘ painted the towns in the ‘wild west‘. After high-school the army led him to Germany, where he later founded his family and gained his first experience in Rap and Hip-Hop groups, until finally in 2008 he met the band PushUp, in which he lives out his musical roots - always true to the device: Sax & Brass & Rock ‘n‘ Soul.
