Connemara Stone Company

Die Connemara Stone Company wurde im Jahre 1995 gegründet. Die im Irish Folk und speziell im Folk-Rock erfahrenen Musiker haben sich zum Ziel gesetzt, Irish und Scottish Folk in Verbindung mit moderner Rockmusik im Ruhrgebiet und darüber hinaus zu verbreiten. Der Sänger Olaf Mesenbrock hatte bereits zuvor in anderen Formationen für Aufsehen gesorgt.


Nachdem im Jahre 1996 einer der besten Whistler (Querflöte, Tin-Whistle) des westlichen Ruhrgebiets gewonnen werden konnte, ging es mit der Band steil bergauf. Noch im gleichen Jahr wurde die erste CD „From Celtic to Rock" im Studio eingespielt und Anfang 1997 veröffentlicht. Die vierte Auflage ist bereits vergriffen.


In den Jahren 1996 und 1997 hat die Band in diversen Kulturstädten, und bei Stadtfesten im Ruhrgebiet „aufgeräumt" mit dem Klischee des althergebrachten Irish Folk. Rhythmisch, mit viel Gefühl und noch mehr Spaß an der Musik ist den Musikern die Synthese der genialen Werke der Iren, Schotten und Kelten mit dem Beat und dem Geist der neuen Zeit gelungen. Neben diversen Auftritten und Interviews bei den lokalen Radiosendern des Ruhrgebiets wurde ihr Video sowie auch Konzertmitschnitte im TV gesendet.


1998 / 99 – Connemara Stone Company bringt ihre zweite CD auf den Markt „For one Ireland“. Diese CD wurde sofort ein Renner, und bisher 4000 mal unter das V(F)olk gebracht. Bei ihrem Auftritt beim Essener Stadt- und Kultur-Festival „Essen Original“, als Vorgruppe für Stoppok, waren 8.000 Zuschauer restlos begeistert und wurden von der Spielfreude der fünf Musiker förmlich mitgerissen. Auch ihr Auftritt mit WISHBONE ASH hat gezeigt, dass selbst Rock Fans von dieser Gruppe beeindruckt waren.


2000 ... war Connemara Stone Company auf mehreren Groß Events zu Gast, u.a. mit Fiddlers Green, Claymore, Perfect, Bardic. z.B. beim Folk Festival Bodenwerder, Folk im Schloss Herten, Folk Festival Schloss Broich (Mülheim), Essen verwöhnt, Folk Fest Wattenscheid, LBS Party , verschiedene Stadtfeste u.s.w.


2001 .... Songwriting ist angesagt, und daher ist CSC in erstem Halb-Jahr etwas weniger unterwegs. Trotzdem hat Connemara Stone Company zum St. Patrick’s Day 3 Konzerte für ihre Fans gegeben. Dabei ist am 17.3. (St. Patrick’s Day) unsere neue CD „Live in Ringlokschuppen“ aufgenommen. Herbst 2001 war voll gepackt mit kleinem Club Gigs (man sollte nie vergessen wo man herkommt.). In dieser Zeit sind auch 4-5 neue Lieder entstanden. Krönender Abschluss 2001 war ein Konzert für VW – Wolfsburg in der Autostadt, kurz vor Weihnacht.

2002 ... Wir waren viel unterwegs z.B. Folkfest Senden, Folk Frühling Venne, Waltroper Park Fest, Folk Festival Volmarstein, Essen Original, Appeltatenfest Gladbeck, Messe Düsseldorf, Castrop Stadtgartenfest, Nürburgring, Drachenfest Moers, Folkfest Eitorf, VW-Wolfsburg, u.v.m.

Zwischendurch haben wir unsere erste “Single” produziert. „The Boys from the Ruhr“

2003 ... Ein Jahr zum Luftholen und Songs schreiben, beziehungsweise neu entdecktem Material den "Connemara" - Schliff zu geben. Natürlich haben wir auch einige Konzerte gegeben. Vor allem sind wir stolz, bei VW - Autostadt Wolfsburg zum dritten Jahr in Folge gespielt zu haben. Ab Herbst waren wir fast ausschließlich im Proberaum, um die neue CD vorzubereiten. Dabei haben wir Horst "Ofri" Pohl als festes Mitglied der Connemara Stone Company eingebaut. Ofri spielt Bass, Keyboard und singt bei einigen Songs mit.

2004 ... Zuerst waren wir überwiegend mit unserer neuen CD beschäftigt die endlich am 9.7.04 auf dem Volmarstein Irish Folk Fest präsentiert wurde. Davor haben wir im Ringlokschuppen Mülheim gespielt, unsere Freunde in Meschede besucht und bei einem sehr schönen neuen Folk Festival auf der Burg Kastellaun gespielt. Danach waren wir auf zahlreichen Stadtfesten und Festivals zu sehen und zu hören.

2005 … 10 Jahre Connemara Stone Company – Dank unsere Freunde von Essen Marketing, dürften wir, mit unsere Gäste „The Shannon Dancers“, ein “10 Jahre” Party auf der Hauptbühne beim Essen Original feiern. Und das 3 Stunden lang.
17,000 Zuschauer haben mit uns gefeiert.
Es war definitiv einem Jahr mit vielen Highlights und einer ständig wachsenden Fangemeinde. Viele Veranstalter haben erkannt das unsere Art keltische Musik zu spielen bei allen Altersgruppen ankommt, speziell bei Stadtfesten. Highlights: Balver Höhle, Waltroper Parkfest, Altburg Folkfestival, Homberg Festival, Brilon Stadtfest. Lagerhalle Osnabrück, Nürnberger Altstadtfest.

2006 / 2007 ... Wir haben 2006 etwas Luft geholt, WM angeschaut 2007 haben wir neue Songs und Tunes gesucht für das nächste CD. Selbstverständlich haben wir auch mehrere Konzerte gespielt. Unsere Vorbereitung für 2008 – viele Auftritte, und wenn wir mit unsere CD Aufnahmen zufrieden sind. Release unsere nächste CD .

The „CONNEMARA STONE COMPANY“ have been together since 1995, and all played previously in various Folk-Rock Groups, which is soon obvious when you see them live on stage. Right from the start they decided to rearrange Traditional Celtic music into modern Folk-Rock songs and tunes. Apart from that, it was very important to them to bring Folk music to the younger generation.

To their surprise not only did the younger generation like their music. This was more as apparent as they played a concert with “Wishbone Ash”, the audience being (putting it mildly) a little bit older.

At the start of 96, and a change in the line-up, the Band persuaded Micheal Künzel (one of the best German Flute and Tin-Whistle players) to join the Band. It was at this stage that their own individual sound started to develop and just as important, the singer Olaf Mesenbrock started to gain the reputation as one of the best Folk-Rock singers on the German circuit.

They brought out their first CD “From Celtic to Rock” in the spring of 97 and spent the next two years playing up and down the country in Clubs, Pubs, Open-Air Festivals and Town Halls. The audiences soon realized that they had at long last found a Celtic Folk-Rock Band that, although they were Rockin’ it from town to town, hadn’t forgot their Celtic Roots.

1998 saw the release of their second CD “For one Ireland”, which up till know has turned over about 4,000 copies. In that respect they enjoyed the admiration of many a Band in Europe. This year was also the year they started writing some of their own songs, and playing some of the larger venues, amongst others as support for “Stoppok” (a well known German musician), and as mentioned before with “Wishbone Ash”.

1999 + 2000 saw the Band playing on most of the major Folk Festivals and Open-Airs. Most of the two years they spent having a good time playing to an ever increasing Fan Club, especially when they were billed with fellow musicians such as “Fiddlers Green”, “Bardic”, “Claymore”, “Perfect”, “Lack of Limits” and “Tears for Beers”, to mention a few.

2000/2001 was the year that Connemara concentrated on writing new material. In this period two of their most popular songs were written, “Cast a cold eye” and “Maid on the Shore”. On St. Patrick’s Day 2001 their third CD was recorded live at a Gig in Mülheim (Germany). From the three hour program 12 Songs were selected for the new CD, including their latest song “Wild West Wind”, and was released in July 2001. The year 2001 ended with a bang, as they were asked to play for VW (the car people) just before Christmas. They agreed of course, and the concert put the finishing touch to a successful year.

2002 – The Band were on the road most of the year. At the same time they were in Studio again where their first single was produced. “The Boys from the Ruhr”, which was basically just for fun. Surprisingly enough it was quiet a success with our Fans, and was billed as “The Summer Hit” on a couple of Radio stations.

2003 – Was time for taking a deep breath and working on new songs, or giving the “Connemara” touch to old material we had discovered. We were still on the road up to the end of November. After that we disappeared into “The Hole”, our practice room to start work on the new CD, which was released in July 2004.

2004 – 2005. - The Band is on the Road most of the time. We released our CD “Birds & Beasts” at the Irish Folk Festival, Volmarstein.

2006 – We took a bit of a break in 2006. Started looking for new material for the next CD and watched a lot of Football.

2007 – We have played a fair few Gigs up to now including a Gig with Barclay James Harvest, which was nice. In the next few weeks we will probably start work in the Studio and hope to have the CD out early next year.
