Devils & Soehne

Folk |

Die Musiker: Annie Leopardo (vocals) Steve Mc Bread (vocals & guitar) F.A. "The Lap" Miller (lapsteel, banjo & mandoline) Mr. Blue "Lightning" Squeeze (squeeze box & vocals) H.P. "El Bajo" Jackson (upright bass & vocals) Dr. Aleks Eightball (drums & groove)
There is a place, where formely lived lumberjacks and rafters, and even in our days you can meet some rough fellows there: „Devils & Soehne“ they call their band, who met together in a tiny little town called Calw in black forrest/Germany. When the band begins to play their funky western–swing–music, it may happen, that some guests climb the tables to dance upon it. Their music is basically influenced by the nice melodies composed by song writer Steve Mc Bread and by the highly–decorated other band members:
Mr. Blue „Lightning“ Squeeze originally came from black forrest blues–scene and left his marks on it; Drummer Dr. Aleks Eightball is on tour in music business on all stages in Europe all the time and F.A. „The Lap“ Miller is one of the hottest specialists in guitars/banjos/mandolines. Not to forget H.P. „El Bajo“ jackson with his old style communist bass from Hungary that even survived Joseph Stalin and the cold war. Says band leader Steve Mc Bread: „ In the beginning we usually played just for fun at al kind of partys“.
Meanwhile it´s the purpose of the band to entertain western–swing–fans of all age. „We want to bring fun and entertainment with our music, not hard and noisy, but easy and swinging“. Approximately half of the songs are covers from the 30ies to the early 50ies.
The others are own songs. „We focus very much on our own songs“. And so they all have a particular style. When „Devils & Soehne“ have concerts, it´s not only about music. „We try to create a kind of hillbilly–athmosphere on stage“ says F.A. „The Lap“ Miller. Jackets, hats, cowboy boots and cigars therefore don´t miss. And even the instruments fit to the music. No matter if bass, guitar, banjo or lap steel: They all are very aged and may be able to tell a lot of stories from smoke–filled–honky tonks and music bars all over this land.
„Devils and Soehne“ shurely are a hot spot in actual live–music–scene.
